The elusive closing

Well, here we are at May 22nd, and still not a closing in sight. According to my most recent time line (now revised) I should have moved two days ago. The bank apparently keeps finding new and creative ways to prolong the process of closing on my condo. Truthfully, I don’t mind the fact that I didn’t move this week, as I wasn’t totally ready anyway… but it would be nice to be able to do it this week. Of course, if I do by the grace of God manage to close this week, the mover probably won’t be able to do it. I just keep taking deep breaths and thinking toward the summer.

The packing is… moving along, I suppose. I knew I had a lot of stuff, but I can’t believe how much is left to pack as I look around and see every corner of my apartment already filled with boxes. I’ve packed all of my pans and dry goods, so I’m trying to come up with new and creative ways to use up the contents of my freezer.

My landlords came by with their carpenter today to measure my apartment for new windows, counter tops, kitchen sink… and they’re also going to put in new carpeting. Too bad I had to live with the old, crappy versions for seven years. Eh, at least since all of the stuff was old and crappy for me, I didn’t have to worry about somehow ruining it.

I am lucky that that my landlords haven’t found another renter yet- otherwise I would be moving all of my stuff into my friend’s basement. At least I have the flexibility to wait for these bozos at the bank to nit-pick every aspect of my loan.

I can’t wait to be moved in so I can start working on some projects. I want to re-paint one of my end tables and get a little glass top for it, and I also want to paint my bedside table and mirror. That sort of thing will be way more interesting to post than this boring ‘closing limbo’ stuff… for the three people who actually read this (hi, Mom.)

I have also gone almost a month without baking anything (which might not necessarily be a bad thing, since in that same time frame I’ve lost seven pounds) but I’m itching to get back into the kitchen too.  I was hoping to make some sort of elaborate Lost-themed cake for the big series finale tomorrow, but I’ll be lucky if I make it to the Stop and Shop for some black and white cookies. My whole life has been put on hold! Come on, condo! We’re in the home stretch. Hopefully the next post will have some good news to share about a firm moving date.

I felt the need to post something on here because it’s been a while and if I don’t write something now, I will look up and it will be six months later, with blog abandoned. Can’t let that happen. I have been going full speed ahead since my birthday- preparing kids (and organizing stuff) for the Elementary All-County festival, the endless packing and the normal stuff I do every week (like teach private lessons and bake birthday cakes) there hasn’t been a whole lot of spare time.

As for the whole condo thing… it’s crawling at a snail’s pace. I laugh in the face of my original estimated closing date of May 3rd! May 3rd has come and gone, with nary a word from lawyers or anything… because the lawyers involved in this deal kinda suck the big one. Basically, I still have no idea when I’m closing (and, thereby, moving) because the lawyers keep forgetting to do important things like deposit my down payment money into escrow. Awesome.

I had to go to the condo and pick up something that was mailed to me prematurely at that address- and was pleased to see the flowering tree and pretty azaleas in the front yard. Best part is, I don’t have to prune them or do anything but enjoy their beauty. Thank you, homeowner association fee. I’m also told that they shovel the snow off of the driveway and right up to your front door. I can’t wait. It all just sounds so civilized. Central air conditioning, someone to shovel snow for me, a swimming pool… if I ever actually get to move there, I will feel like I’m living at a resort.

Of course I’ve been daydreaming about the things I want to get once I move in. Truthfully, most of these items are more necessary than dreamy (like a couch, a grill and bookshelves) but I also do want to get a new TV. Most of my friends are sort of baffled that someone like me, who watches so much television, has a rather dinky,  outdated set. I want to put the dinky TV in my bedroom so when I fall asleep every night watching the Food Network, I’m already in bed. I contemplated waiting until black Friday to get a good deal on a nice TV but I kinda want to buy one sooner rather than later so I can actually host a Grey’s Anatomy night before the season is over. We’ll see how much money I’m left with after closing… ugh. Donations, anyone? Care to contribute to the ‘Michele needs a new TV’ fund?
